I come from a super working class background, born & raised in the Donx (Doncaster, SY, UK). I grew up in relative poverty, escaping domestic violence which made my mom, younger bro & I homeless for about 7 months (I was 15). I’m the first person to finish high-school & go to university. When things started to work out, I got super sick & it changed everrrrything.
But I’ve been given another second chance to live, so I am going to take it. When you’re not sure how much time you have - every thing counts. Things that seemed important before - turns out they’re not that important. But the really important stuff, are the things that we think we can forget about - come back to when we have time/money. But this would be a mistake. Time is spent, money is circulated. I often try and ask myself when I’m not sure: what would you do if you wasn’t afraid?
I guess you don’t usually see this kind of over-sharing, too-much-information on a persons website on the about me section.
But i’ve spent a long time be ashamed of this stuff, when I realize that it’s my own power.
I have a super unique perspective in multiple systems. I understand alot of public health issues, because I lived it, my family lives in it. But I have also studied it, and worked in it.
I understand what is super important to patients and loved one in the system. But clinically understand the barriers that are built into the culture and systems. I understand how carers voices need to be amplified and re-thought about in a system that forgets the really human, complex things. I know how (higher) education doesn’t really have voices like mine in it, or tries to sterotype it, or not do any research into it.
But it means that this double-agency of mine makes me the perfect person to work on your project.
I can make really complex things become more accessible /// fun /// engaging /// simple.
I can understand and turn complicated subject matter & its difficult terminology (such as in healthcare, medical, philosophical, governmental policy, etc) into everyday language through the power of image!
I can help to bring new ways to thinking and seeing big system stuff.
